Learn more about the journey and future of SSSC registration, what it means to be fit to practise, what it means to have an effective voice means and how we can help you with your continuous learning.
This event is about you. We want our relationship to be a good one. We’ll give you the information you need for your registration and role and you can give us your views and ask us questions too.
What you can expect
SSSC Chief Executive, Lorraine Gray will welcome you and give an overview of the workshops and what we’re doing to support the wider sector at the moment. You’ll get the chance to ask questions at the end of the event.
You can choose to attend two of our workshops.
You can earn an Open Badge
By attending the event you’ll be able to gain an Open Badge to recognise your learning from the event. You can use Open Badges towards your post registration training and learning.
Who is the event for?
This event is aimed primarily at SSSC registered workers, however it may be of interest to managers and employers who don’t register with us.
Workshops
You can attend two workshop sessions. Please indicate your preference of workshops, we’ll do our best to accommodate your choices. Spaces will be allocated on a first-come basis.
Registration and the future of the Register
We will discuss what being a registered worker means, the responsibilities for registered workers and the value of registration. We will also share our plans for reviewing the Register and ask for feedback on your experience of our processes and services. We want to know what works well and what could be better. We welcome all comments so we can improve as we consider the growing need for flexibility in the sector and how we can support this now and in the future.
Fitness to practise - what does it mean?
Come along to find out more about the Codes of Practice, in practice. What do the Codes mean to you? This session is an opportunity to share examples of good practice and to bring the Codes to life. An element of the workshop will put a spotlight on relevant Fitness to Practise issues, including a brief focus on social media ... to tweet or not to tweet?
This session ends with some information about Fitness to Practise Hearings – what is involved in a hearing and what to consider doing if a hearing is arranged, including the support we offer.
Continuous professional learning (CPL)
We will show you some of the resources we have developed to help you with CPL. This includes our MyLearning smartphone app which we created to help bring all your learning into one place quickly and easily.
Find out more about how you can gain recognition for learning through Open Badges that can be used as evidence of your CPL. We’ll show you how these link to our resources, other learning that you do and how your badges can be automatically stored in your MyLearning account in the smartphone app to save you time by reducing duplication.
How do workers have an effective voice?
The Fair Work agenda for social care highlights the importance of all staff having an effective voice. This session focuses on what this means, both for staff’s rights and responsibilities to raise concerns and employers’ responsibilities for supervision, team meetings and other workplace communication that support staff to develop their practice and actively engage in service improvement and innovation.
